Ive seen quite a few down draught reactors not running a cyclone. My thought is that, as gas is being extracted at the bottom there would be a fair amount of ash or cinders in the mix and a cyclone would be highly beneficial?
Im just gathering together the things I need to make my own system and I found two identical stainless steel buckets and Ill mount them together top to top to make my cyclone body.
In the background you will see what is going to be my heat exchanger and also my ceramic combustion zone/reduction zone liners, my water container and the straw filter box

Ok first I strongly recommend building a charcoal system for your first build. Small scale wood fuel systems are very dificult its 100% unlikely you will succeed.
Once you build and learn charcoal you will realize its easier fuel to produce and more than likely wont even pursue wood fuel gasification.
